One of those e-mail chains . . .
got one of those e-mails this morning, you know, the ones that always make the rounds, returning every few months, and actually, this is on e of those that actually is intended to help you, with good information about saving your life. It's entitled "good tips" (this time) and it contains what women should do to stave off predators who might try to abduct them in mall parking lots. And actually, it all seems like relatively solid advice, what with neat tips like using the elbow and (my favorite) gunning the car and intentionally crashing it should someone jump in and try to abduct you.
(I almost want to try that sometime . . . hope that's not inviting danger!)
But, toward the end of the email, there is a line that I thought was quite interesting - it was after advising that if you suspect something might be out of the ordinary in the parking lot near your car, feel free to go inside the mall and have a security guard escort you to your car. The email states, "It's better to be paranoid than dead."
And I thought to myself, "hm . . . if everyone follows that advice, then eventually, all the
non-paranoics will be dead. As in, killed and dumped alongside the highway somewhere, and
all the paranoics will still be alive . . .
jumping at shadows, yes,
but still alive."
What a choice.
Well, that was my slight smile for the day . . . hope it is for you as well.
