Christian and no Conservative

I don't know exactly how the Republican party has become so very good at making Christians feel as thought hye can't vote for a Democrat. I'm quite certain that there are millions of seekers of truth out there who can pile on page after page of evidence as to how the Republican party has subverted true Christianity into some fearmongering enterprise, but siuffice it to say, they';ve done a very good job iof it. A decent Christian can't rightly vote for a democrat these days without the conservative propoganada making him or her feel as though by doing so, they are apporviing carte blanche babykillers, for homosexuals to mate openlyon your front lawn and to take away all the money that decent hardworking people earn and give it to the meth addict down the street.

Which is all absolute balderdash. The fact that the conservative party has somehow appropriated the title of Christian is in fact a disservice to Christianity. It is extremely hard to show people the true love of Jesus Christ when these intolerant bigots cloak themselves in the Shroud of Turin to further whatever political agenda they have at the time (one of the most notorious examples in recent years would be to wage war)

It's time for the moderates and the liberals to take Christ back away from the clutches of the Religious Right and put Him back where He should be - as a Saviour for all of us. Not just those who want to keep gays in the closet, take away women's rights to control a fundamental function of their bodies, or damn the rest of us to Hell for daring to speak out against an unjust war.

In fact, I read once somewhere in the notes of a great philosopher (an Italian immigrant who ran a corner store in Manhattan for fifty years in the Twentieth Century) who stated that Jesus Christ was perhaps the greatest Liberal ever. Period. Let's see if I can remember how he put it:

Did Jesus Christ say that you can eat only if you can afford to eat? No. He said, "Everybody eats." (The feeding of the five thousand - the Body and Blood from the Last Supper)

Did Jesus Christ say that you can only get healed if you have health insurance? No! He said, everyone can be healed. No one is turned away.

Did He say pay your taxes? YES! He said "Render unto Caesar's what is Caesar's and render unto God what is God's"

Did Jesus say put people down because they were lowlifes? No! In fact, about the Mary Magdalene, the whore with seven demons - who most likely in today's American culture would be akin to a meth addict who kids go malnourished and whose utilities have been cut off and who whores herself for the price of a fix and whose whole house stinks like fecal matter and dead rodents - He said, I will be with her, because she needs ME.

So, my friends, if I have any friends out there in the blogosphere (because I don't know because I never hear from any of you) -

I say we tell everybody that Jesus Christ is neither to the LEFT nor to the RIGHT -

He is right in the center - and directly ABOVE.

Let's turn our eyes to Him and follow Him the way He's meant to be followed, and not use Him like a poster child to further our own wants.

Thank you, and good night.

VG
