Relinquish Your Party Affiliation
The hot topic for government today is that everybody is upset with bi-partisan bickering. All the people are disgusted with it, and we talk endlessly about it, saying, "Why can't the Dems and the Repubs just work together and help get this country fixed?"
The Republos are just p'o'd that they can't ram down every bill that will allow big business to continue to rape America, and probably they have a right to be torqued - those guys pay them their real $$ under the table, and if they ain't got it, then the Congressmen ain't got it neither.
Perhaps that's unfair to state the the Republicans are on the take. Perhaps they are simply idealists who truly believe that to allow big business not to have to pay their fair share of the taxes will give them so much money that they will magically shower it upon the rest of the citizenry. Perhaps.
Or perhaps they truly are afraid that the Dems are just going to turn America into one big turgid bureaucratic machine where to withdraw your own money from the bank you'll have to fill out a form in triplicate and stand in line while three government employees review your request.
Whatever,
Americans want the party bickering to stop - pure and simple. So here's my plan - it's not an award-winning plan, and I don't even know how feasible it is but here goes:
Whenever any of these idiots gets elected, the moment they take office, they relinquish their Party Affiliation. This goes for judges (actually I think it's Constitutionally mandated for judges - will somebody please check on that and get back to me?), the Congress, and the President alike.
Part of the problem now is that the Democratic Party is trying to influence the outcome of two state Senatorial elections in order to get a Demo in so that they can have a super majority - but that means they are influencing politics not to get the best person in, just the person for their party. This also indicates that party allegiance outweighs good decision making every time.'
If we forced all these people to give up their appelations, they would not be trying for these "Filibuster-proof" majorities - they would know that we want them to get down to business.
Now, I'm not so much an idealist that I think this will suddenly make them all hold hands and sing Kumbaya, but I think it would establish an atmosphere in which they see themselves as Senators and Representatives, and not as Democractic or Republican Senators, or Republican or Democratic Representatives. I think establishing the mood will go a long way to fostering the type of cooperation that we want to see in our government.
Look, they represent people of specific districts and specific states, right? A Republican senator represents an entire state, not just the Republicans in that state - No! He or she represents everybody! Including the Libertarians!
Sure, I believe that they still will vote along their party lines, and I think they'll still have the same alliances - but at least they wouldn't be so brazen about slinging their stupid Donkey vs. Elephant banners.
Let me know what you think.
Or, better yet, don't. Use your energy to write to your congressperson, your senator, and tell them that you demand, as their constituent, that they put aside their bickering and FIX THIS BEEYATCH!!
thankyouverymuch
